This page was last updated on July 19, 2021.This article relies too much on references to primary sources. If Unfathomable is successful enough to receive expansions, it’s likely those would contain additional characters ( Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game, which Unfathomable reimplements, had new characters in each of its 3 expansions). Could these investigators eventually find their way into a nautical-themed expansion for Arkham Horror: The Card Game, either in an aged-up form or in a period-appropriate campaign? Time will tell. It features a new cast of playable characters from its time period who haven’t appeared in any previous Arkham games. Unfathomable is set in 1913, more than a decade earlier than the mid-1920s setting of the rest of the Arkham Files.

The 10 new characters below have been previewed as the full cast of playable characters for the upcoming Arkham Files game Unfathomable. The remaining 10 investigators below have appeared as playable characters in other games in the Arkham Files line but have not yet been released or announced for Arkham Horror: The Card Game. Some other dog investigators were shown in the original April Fool’s announcement – Tummy-rubs Muldoon, Wagatha Dane, Pupper Mutteo, Jackson Pawlick, and Rex Murphy – but their cards were written to be purely comedic and not at all playable. Although these dogs have been omitted from ArkhamDB due to the parody nature of the product, they are nonetheless functioning, playable investigators ( Barkham says not to use them in regular scenarios but if you get the itch to run them through The Forgotten Age then I say knock yourself out).

Valentino Rivas, Wealthy Philanthropistīarkham Horror: The Meddling of Meowlathotep (an actual Arkham Horror: The Card Game product inspired by an earlier April Fool’s joke) featured a playable set of 5 canine parody investigators. While they have investigator cards, they are not true investigators and cannot be played outside that prologue scenario. The four characters below are played in the prologue scenario in The Circle Undone campaign. Marie Lambeau was originally only available as a preorder promo for the book The Investigators of Arkham Horror (with her normal signature cards) but was later released in a regular expansion. Carolyn Fern, Dexter Drake, and Silas Marsh were initially only available as novella promo cards but were later released in regular expansions (though because the novella versions came with alternate signature cards, there’s still value in owning both versions). Norman is due to exit this list soon when he appears in Edge of the Earth.

The 2 investigators below are currently only available as promo cards distributed with Arkham Files novellas. Of the 5 starter deck investigators, 3 were brand new to the Arkham Files line (Nathaniel, Stella and Winifred). These investigators are exclusive to their starter decks and will not be printed in other products. Each Investigator Starter Deck features a different mono-class investigator with a fully playable deck tailored to that character. The following 5 investigators were released through the new Investigator Starter Deck product type.
